Frequently asked questions
What is Neptune Tax Filing?
Neptune offers tax filing powered by April Tax — the first new tax platform to receive full IRS e-file authorization in 15 years. You can file your federal and state taxes directly through the Neptune app, with the option to have a credentialed Tax Pro review or fully prepare your return.
What’s the difference between Pro and Pro Review?
Pro (Do It For Me) is full-service: you upload your tax documents and a dedicated, credentialed Tax Pro handles everything — preparing and filing your return from start to finish. Pro Review (Do It With Me) lets you complete the tax interview yourself, then a credentialed Tax Pro reviews your return before you submit. Each tier solves a different need — this isn’t an “upgrade” ladder.
Who are the Tax Pros?
All Tax Pros are credentialed, U.S.-based tax professionals. Pro filers are assigned a dedicated Tax Pro who manages their return from beginning to end and responds to messages within 1 business day.
What tax situations can you handle?
All individual tax situations, including W-2 wages, interest and dividends, stock sales including crypto, business income (Schedule C), K-1 income, rental income, equity compensation (RSUs, ISOs, ESPP), and more. Standard or itemized deductions, EITC, Child Tax Credit, education credits, HSA, mortgage interest, and charitable contributions are all supported. Entity returns (business returns and trust accounts) are not covered.
How long does filing take?
With Pro, once your Tax Pro has all documents, your return will be filed in 5 business days or less. With Pro Review, self-preparation can take as little as 40 minutes, and the Tax Pro review turnaround depends on complexity.
Are there any hidden fees or upsells?
No. There are no upsells, no hidden fees, and transparent pricing is provided upfront to all users. Pro includes your federal return, up to 2 state returns, 1 Schedule C, 1 K-1, and 4 consolidated 1099s. Additional forms have clear per-form pricing.
What guarantees are included?
Every filing includes a Maximum Refund Guarantee and a 100% Accuracy Guarantee. If a tax preparation error entitles you to a larger refund or smaller liability, all fees will be refunded and your return will be amended at no additional charge. If the software makes a mathematical error resulting in an IRS penalty or interest, you’ll be reimbursed up to $10,000.
How does filing work for married couples?
Married Filing Jointly requires one return with both spouses’ information in a single filing. Married Filing Separately means each spouse files their own return — two separate profiles, each treated and priced as an individual filing.
Is my information secure?
All communication is encrypted and compliant with IRS Section 7216 (taxpayer data privacy). Where possible, Neptune sends existing profile data to pre-fill parts of the tax interview, reducing questions and errors.
What’s the filing deadline?
The IRS filing deadline is April 15, 2026. For Pro filers, documents should be uploaded by approximately April 1 to allow the 5-business-day turnaround before the cutoff. If your return isn’t signed by the cutoff date, an extension will be filed automatically. Extensions extend the filing deadline to October 15, but estimated taxes are still due April 15.
