Rules of Conduct
As an attorney on the Neptune Legal platform, you are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and client service. The following rules of conduct outline the expectations for all attorneys engaged as independent contractors through Neptune Legal. Failure to adhere to these standards will result in removal from the platform and termination of your engagement with Neptune Legal. By participating in our network, you agree to abide by these rules to ensure a fair, transparent, and professional experience for all clients.
Client-Centered Service – Attorneys must act in the best interests of their clients, providing clear, honest, and timely legal advice.
Timely Communications: Attorneys are expected to respond to clients and opposing counsel in a timely manner, waiting no longer than 3 business days to respond to client emails and communications.
If assigned as an attorney for a prenup or postnuptial agreement:
- (a) Drafting Attorney Responsibilities: If hired as the drafting attorney on a case, the Attorney is to ensure:
- (i) Timely Drafting: Must send the initial draft or reach out to the client within 14 days of receiving the client’s financial disclosures and other required materials. Attorney will aim to finalize prenup at least 7 days before wedding date.
- (ii) Negotiations: Make reasonable revisions within the agreement based on client feedback and discussions with the reviewing attorney to ensure an enforceable agreement.
- (iii) Execution:Provide signing and notarization instructions to the client and reviewing attorneys.
- (b) Reviewing Attorney Responsibilities: If hired as the reviewing attorney on a case, the Attorney is to ensure:
- (i) Timely Review – Must set up a client meeting within 14 days of receiving the draft agreement. Attorney will aim to finalize prenup at least 7 days before wedding date.
- (ii) Negotiations: Make reasonable revisions within the agreement based on client feedback and discussions with the drafting attorney to ensure an enforceable agreement.
- (iii) Execution Guidance – Ensure the client understands the signing and notarization process.
If assigned as an attorney for estate planning:
- (a) Timely Drafting: Must send the initial draft or reach out to the client within 14 days of receiving the client’s required materials.
- (b) Clear Funding Instructions: Provide clear funding instructions to the client to ensure proper asset transfer to the trust.
Professionalism & Respect – Attorneys must engage with clients and other attorneys respectfully, maintaining a high standard of professional conduct.
Platform Integrity & Client Retention – If a client is introduced through the platform, you may not attempt to move them off-platform or engage them independently outside the firm.
Calendar Requirements: Attorney will keep their calendar up-to-date including blocking off any out-of-office or vacation time on their calendar.
Commitment to Education – Attorney commits to staying up-to-date with legal developments in family law and prenuptial agreements.
